Vertical Trunnion Labeler

The Challenge
A large multinational pharmaceutical company required variably printed labels to be wrap-applied to cylindrical plastic vials at speeds to 300 products per minute.

The Solution
Label-Aire provided a turnkey system, which included the Model 2115CD labeler mounted to a Vertical Roller Module conveyor system.  The vials are transferred from the customer's capper into our guide rails supported by the caps.  A single feedscrew assembly smoothly guides the vials into the vertical roller conveyor.  A thermal transfer cabinet printer is loose-loop interfaced to the 2115CD labeler to variably print date and expiration information on the labels prior to application.  The Vertical Roller Wrap Assembly eliminates label skew caused by product lean and minimizes stability issues typically associated with high speed wrap applications.  The 6" (152 mm) by 6' (1.8 m) long mainframe conveyor system also incorporates an encoder which automatically synchronizes the dispense speed of the 2115CD to changes in the wrap belt speeds.

With a label placement accuracy of +/- 1/32" (0.8 mm) and the ability to print and apply up to 300 labels per minute, this heavy-duty system not only met the customer's specifications, but far exceeded their expectations.
